INTRODUCTION

POPULATION AND DEVELOPMENT TREND: PAST AND FUTURE

The focus of the population and development trend analysis will be on the larger area first and then move to the progressively smaller areas within each preceding area. This approach will allow for an easier explanation and understanding of the dynamics affecting the past and expected future growth of population and development within the various areas.

The Boise Metro Area is known locally as part of the “Treasure Valley” and nationally as the “Boise Valley”. It is identified in this analysis as an area that extends about 60 miles along Interstate 84. However, the population of the entire five-county area is typically reflected. The “Greater Treasure Valley Metro Area” is generally identified as an area that extends about 120 miles along Interstate 84 from the Ontario (Oregon) Weiser area to the Glenns Ferry area.

The South Valley Area is the desert to the southeast of Boise along Interstate 84 toward Mountain Home. The Mayfield Orchard Area is an area near the center of the South Valley Area that extends beyond the Mayfield and Orchard Townsites and includes the Simco Road Area.

The Orchard Area is an area in the southwestern part of the Mayfield Orchard Area.
